On the afternoon of February 2, 2018, the COSCO SHIPPING Technology & Information Platform was officially launched in Shanghai. Mr. Sun Jiakang, Executive Vice President and Deputy Party Secretary of COSCO SHIPPING, Mr. Wang Yuhang, Executive Vice President and Party Committee Member of COSCO SHIPPING, Mr. Yi Jiyong, Deputy Head of the Water Transport Bureau under the Ministry of Transport, Mr. Qin Wenbo, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality (STCSM), and Mr. Wu Jihong, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization (SMCEI) jointly declared the launch of this platform. Leaders from COSCO SHIPPING, Department of Science and Technology under the Ministry of Transport, STCSM, SMCEI, and COSCO SHIPPING Technology Co., Ltd./Shanghai Ship and Shipping Research Institute (SSSRI) addressed the launching ceremony.
The platform was established by consolidating COSCO SHIPPING’s major resources in sci-tech and information, including SSSRI, a corporation transformed from a research institute, and its affiliates, as well as COSCO SHIPPING Technology, a listed company. With the mission of making innovations, developing the Group’s IT business and implementing the Internet Plus strategy, the platform will make use of big data and intelligent technology to upgrade management and establish new business models and an industrial ecosystem in an effort to build a digitalized corporation.
In his address, Mr. Wang Yuhang said establishment of the platform is a major decision made by COSCO SHIPPING to embrace the “big data” era as well as a strategic initiative to build a sci-tech innovation ecosystem that covers the entire industry chain and strive toward “Intelligent Shipping + Intelligent Manufacturing” as required by Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING Capt. Xu Lirong. The platform is of great practical and historical significance for the Group to achieve long-term development, implement the Internet Plus strategy, build a strong supporting system for technological innovation and grow China’s shipping industry.
More than 200 guests attended the event, including leaders from China Transport Telecommunications & Information Center of the Ministry of Transport, Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, Pudong New Area Science, Technology and Economy Commission and Lujiazui Financial and Trade Zone Management Committee, as well as executives from partners such as Huawei, IBM and Deloitte, renowned classification societies, universities and research institutes both at home and abroad, and COSCO SHIPPING’s related divisions and subsidiaries.
