Italy officially inaugurated its first offshore wind power project in the country on April 21 with the support of Chinese expertise, Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.
The Beleolico project has a total of 10 turbines supplied by a Chinese company, procuring 30 MW of power that could power nearly 20,000 households each year.
The Chinese equipment supplier, Ming Yang Smart Energy Group Ltd, said the project is a witness of technology exchange in the offshore power sector between Chinese and European companies and international cooperation in promoting the development of clean energy.
Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said the country has made its mind in "speeding up the installation of renewable energy and increase its share in the national energy mix."
"Offshore energy could help the green transition process, while securing economic opportunities for countries with large coastal areas, such as Italy, promoting local value chains and synergies between blue economy's stakeholders," he said.
