Zhejiang province in eastern China consumed a total 13.5 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas in 2018, increasing by 28% from a year earlier, with growth accelerating from 19.3% in 2017, said the provincial development and reform commission.
Its consumption of gas transmitted through pipelines stood at 11 bcm, up by 26% year on year, while the rest climbed 38% from the year-ago level to 2.5 bcm.
The province has taken various measures to respond to rapid growth of gas demand in both slack and peak demand season and the resulted price hikes last year.
In 2017, its gas consumption broke 10-bcm mark to reach 10.5 bcm, rising by 19.3% year on year, with usage of gas transmitted via pipelines at 8.71 bcm and that of the rest at 1.8 bcm.
