CNPC produces 3.02 bln cu m of shale gas in Sichuan last yr

China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) produced 3.02 billion cubic meters of shale gas in southwestern China's Sichuan province in 2017, accounting for one third of China's total shale gas production in the year, which could replace nearly 6 million tonnes of raw coal.

Sichuan's shale gas reserves are distributed mainly at the southern part of its Sichuan Basin and the main producing area of the province is Changning-Weiyuan shale gas block, which is also known as the first shale gas demonstration project of CNPC.

By the end of 2017, Changning-Weiyuan shale gas block had put 163 shale gas wells into production and daily shale gas production stood at around 8 million cubic meters, accounting for 98.9% of Petrochina Southwest Oil & Gasfield Company's total shale gas production.

Besides, CNPC Zhejiang Oilfield branch reported shale gas production of more than 500 million cubic meters in 2017.

The use of shale gas could reduce emission of carbon dioxide as well as sulfur dioxide to a great extent.
