Iron ore exports to China from Australia's Port Hedland rose 0.16% from a year earlier to 40.52 million tonnes in May, according to the Pilbara Ports Authority.
It was also up 14.05% from April. The shipments to China accounted for 84% of the port's total iron ore exports that month.
Port Hedland is one of the world's largest iron ore export ports, used by three of the world's top four iron ore miners - BHP Group, Fortescue Metals Group and Roy Hill Holdings.
In May, Port Hedland's total iron ore exports reached 48.17 million tonnes, up 0.91% on the year and 11.32% on the month, data showed.
Total exports in the first five months of the year fell 1.51% year on year to 224 million tonnes. Shipments to China declined 0.81% to 192 million tonnes, accounting for 86% of the total.
