Education and training are paramount at Anglo-Eastern. To ensure the necessary understanding, skill sets and safety/compliance culture, Anglo-Eastern established and operates its own dedicated maritime academy and network of strategically located maritime training centres, complete with simulators, working models, machine workshops and virtual/augmented reality training, amongst other learning facilities.

 

Through these nationally and internationally acclaimed institutions, we offer quality, industry-recognised pre- and post-sea education and training to grow and develop the learning and careers of our cadets and officers, with graduate cadets guaranteed employment within our managed fleet.

In Hong Kong, where Anglo-Eastern is headquartered, we are proud to count Hong Kong’s first female chief engineer amongst our ranks, having trained and mentored her from the start of her maritime career over a decade ago. We also released an industry booklet on gender diversity and inclusion in conjunction with ISWAN and WISTA, two international bodies aimed at supporting women at sea.

Life Below Water

 

Shipping is amongst the cleanest and most cost-efficient forms of mass transportation, but as an industry, it is also a large polluter due to the sheer volumes of cargo moved as a result of its affordability. As such, the maritime industry has committed itself towards a cleaner and greener future, with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) setting a 50% reduction target in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 compared to 2008, amongst other related targets, campaigns and regulations.

 

At Anglo-Eastern, we wholeheartedly embrace such initiatives, as the seas are our livelihood and the future of our planet. Every step is being taken to ensure that our fleet goes above and beyond what is required by environmental regulations, industry targets and more. From cleaner fuels, enhanced efficiencies, stringent training and in-house campaigns, we are tackling the issues head-on.

 

We have launched our own plastic waste reduction initiative on board our ships, and at the Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy, our cadets are taught environmental awareness through living and breathing green practices daily within the academy’s largely self-sufficient campus. Community education and clean-ups, green idea competitions and projects, plus wide-scale recycling efforts on campus are all part of academy life, and what we hope our cadets will take away with them when they join our ships and the wider community.

 

Shaping a better maritime future is not just a tagline. At Anglo-Eastern, it’s what drives us to do what we do as seafarers, as ship managers, as members of the maritime industry, and importantly, as part of this blue planet we call home.
