Christening of RAstar 3200 Sister Tugboats in Hong Kong


Hongkong Salvage & Towage, a division of HUD Group, has added two new high-performance tugs to their fleet.  The Robert Allan Ltd. designed RAstar 3200 Class vessels, MAI PO and SUNG KONG are the most powerful harbour tugs operating in Hong Kong harbour. The tugs were built by Cheoy Lee Shipyards and join four other Robert Allan Ltd. designs, also built by Cheoy Lee.

Particulars of the RAstar 3200 tugs are:
Length, overall: 32.00 m (excluding fenders)
Beam, moulded: 12.80 m
Depth, moulded (hull): 5.37 m
Maximum draft: 4.19 m (above baseline)

Tank capacities are as follows:
Fuel oil:  196 m3
Potable water:  41 m3
Sewage:  3.0 m3
Fi-Fi foam:  8 m3

The tugs are designed and built in accordance with Lloyd's Register of Shipping.

The tugs exceeded the Owner's requirements at sea trials, achieving speeds in excess of 13 knots and BP in excess of 82 tonnes.

The vessels are equipped for off-ship fire-fighting capability to Fi-Fi 1 standard with water spray. They are rated for indirect escort maneuvers in addition to ship-handling operations.

Hongkong Salvage & Towage (HKST) is a division of Hongkong United Dockyards Limited (HUD) which is a joint venture between CK Hutchison and Swire Pacific. It established in 1972 with the merging of Hongkong & Whampoa Dock Company and Taikoo Dockyard & Engineering Company.

All tugs are built in compliance with the IMO, ILO and Hong Kong Flag Administration regulations and specifications and are classed with Lloyd's Register. 
 
HKST is the only tug operator in Hong Kong implementing a safety management system certified for compliance with the ISM Code by Lloyd’s Register. They are also a member of the International Salvage Union and a corporate member of the China Rescue & Salvage Association. Our towage and waste transportation services by vessels within Hong Kong territory waters have attained ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental Management System accreditation from Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency. 
 
HKST harbour tugs and multi-purpose vessels serve 24 hours for the Port of Hong Kong, one of the world's busiest port; whereas it’s ocean-going tugs serve in a standby mode to offer support services in case of emergency.  
 
HKST combats oil spills and safeguard the marine environment that they are working in. With a qualified professional oil spill response team standby at Hong Kong 24/7 as well as an integrated in-house oil spill response assets, including but not limited to a variety of booms, skimmers and pumps, HKST has successfully completed several oil spillage emergency response cases within and surrounding Hong Kong waters over the decades and received high appraisal from a variety of stakeholders.
