Construction of major sea-crossing bridge of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port underway

A key part of a sea-crossing highway bridge of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Main Channel was completed recently.

The Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Main Channel is being designed to establish a large cross-sea passage that connects Ningbo, Zhoushan and Shanghai.

The first phrase of the project started in Zhoushan Island and it will run passed Changbai Island, Daishan Isand to Yushan Island. Of these construction sites, the Changbai project is the most key project.

As a result, construction workers have been very busy building the bridge.

All the materials are being hoisted to the site by tower cranes.

As the towers become higher, the risk increases, too. Truss arms were needed to fasten between the main tower and the tower cranes, so as to ensure the stability of the cranes.

The beam slabs used in the construction - 70 meters in length and 1,800 tons - are the longest and heaviest beam slabs in all of China's sea bridges. They are made at a factory and shipped to the site of construction.

It takes two to four hours to build a beam slab and workers can only install no more than four beam slabs in a day.

The Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Main Channel, containing three bridges, is expected to be completed in 2021. Upon its completion, it will stretch 86.88 kilometers, making it the world's longest islands-linking expressway and the largest cross-sea bridge group.
