Taicang port launches route to Nanjing

The port in Taicang, a county-level city of Suzhou, Jiangsu province, launched a new route to Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu, on June 27, local media reported.

The new daily route runs directly between the Zhenghe Xinggang container terminal in Taicang and the container terminal at Longtan port in Nanjing.

Two routes a week are expected to dock at the Yongjia terminal of Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, bringing foreign trade containers to Taicang from Taiwan, Southeast Asian countries and Japan.

Officials said that the Nanjing-Taicang route will add another 60,000 containers for Taicang port each year.

The new route marks an important step forward for Taicang port in turning itself into a provincial near-sea and ocean-going distribution center and improving its resource allocation capabilities.

At present, Taicang port operates more than 80 inland shipping routes and 25 near-sea shipping routes and connects with 50 Yangtze River ports and 23 ports in countries and regions along the Maritime Silk Road.

In 2018, Taicang port handled more than five million containers, a record high -- making the port number one in Jiangsu and number 10 in China in terms of handling capacity.
