The Plenary Session of the 23rd St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) was held in St. Petersburg on June 7, according to Xinhua. Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini, and U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and other guests attended the event. Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech. Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING Capt. Xu Lirong and Executive Vice President of COSCO SHIPPING Mr. Huang Xiaowen were present at the forum and listened to Xi’s speech.
On June 6 local time, Capt. Xu Lirong attended the SPIEF parallel session on “Innovation in BRICS Countries: Main Directions and Prospects for Cooperation” and exchanged views with other panaelists.
Xu said that innovation has enabled the shipping industry to constantly refresh itself over time. Currently, four new trends are taking shape in the industry, including: technology-driven innovation, rule-drive innovation, demand-driven innovation and digitization-driven innovation. Customer needs have propelled the shipping industry to extend towards both ends of the supply chain, as the industrial competition is no longer competition among ships but that among “chains”. COSCO SHIPPING has long been committed to promoting industry innovation, and it is now working together with industry-leading ocean carriers and terminal operators to build the Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN). While enabling more efficient and secured exchange of data based on block-chain technology, the platform has also realized seamless connection between various links on the logistics supply chain, including carriers, terminal operators, customs and cargo owners, to significantly improve the cargo transportation efficiency.
During their stay in Russia, Capt. Xu Lirong and Mr. Huang Xiaowen also visited PAO Sovcomflot, and held talks with FESCO on the sidelines of the forum.
Relevant heads of the Strategy & Corporate Management Division, Public Relations Division, Operating Management Division, COSCO SHIPPING Lines, COSCO SHIPPING Energy Transportation and COSCO SHIPPING Europe were also present at the events.
