Datong Coal Mine Group, the third largest coal miner after CHN Energy and China Coal, saw its coal shipments to buyers in other regions hit a record high during maintenances to Daqin railway, media reported.
The group, located in coal hub of Datong city in Shanxi province, delivered a total 6.44 million tonnes of coal in April, chinanews.com reported.
With convenient delivery channel of Daqin line that starts from Datong to busiest Qinhuangdao port, Datong Coal has more than 95% of its coal shipped via the railway to Qinhuangdao, Jingtang and Caofeidian ports.
The group decided to transfer all of its seaborne coal business currently at Qinhuangdao to Caofeidian port, according to a framework cooperation agreement it signed with Caofeidian district government on November 19 last year.
Meanwhile, the group's other businesses related to coal logistics will also be transferred to Caofeidian port gradually, said the company.
According to the agreement, Datong Coal will take Caofeidian as its main coal handling port and participate in construction of phase 6 and 7 coal-dedicated wharfs there.
In 2019, the group will ensure at least 40 million tonnes of coal handling at Caofeidian in principle and strive for 50 million tonnes; turnover of trading and logistics firms that are registered at the port will be no less than 15 billion yuan($2.16 billion).
After 2020, Datong Coal will increase 10 million tonnes of coal handling at Caofeidian per year, and shift all its seaborne coal business at Qinhuangdao to Caofeidian when Qinhuangdao port exits from coal.
