China Shipping bulletins on May 23,2019


1.China’s southwest province of Sichuan signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Port of Rotterdam to jointly develop China-Europe multimodal transportation via Chengdu-Tilburg railway link.
 
2.The Xiamen port in East China's Fujian province is expected to handle 20 million containers per year by 2035, according to its newly approved overall plan by the Ministry of Transport and the Fujian Provincial Government.
 
3.Hamburg Süd announced that it christened the ‘Polar Ecuador’ container ship in Antwerp. The ship belongs to a group of four structurally identical vessels in the ‘Polar’ class that have been built for Hamburg Süd by the Chinese shipyard Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding.
 
4.A vessel fully loaded with paper pulp left Punta Pereira Uruguay in South America and headed for its destination in Western Europe in the beginning of 2019, marking COSCO Shipping's first regular service in the Atlantic Ocean.
 
5.China is going to invest 160 billion yuan ($23.17 billion) to build an offshore wind farm project in the coastal areas of Jiangsu province, with a planned installed capacity of over 10 GW, local media reported. 
 
6.SDIC and Huaneng Caofeidian ports announced to lower lump-sum charges on May 22, said their operators in notices released on May 21.The two ports both cut lump-sum charges by 2 yuan/t to 16.5 yuan/t, effective 0:00 on May 22, according to the notices. 
 
7.The annual Lloyds day in Hong Kong witnessed the usual strong presence of London syndicates this week. But the conversation among many was often of the decimation of a marine syndicates, which has led to many seasoned underwriters losing their jobs. The drastic shakeout began in in the second half of last year. Lloyds representative in Hong Kong, Thomas Haddrill was on hand to explain the rationale.
 
8.Singapore’s Synergy Marine has sent a very young boxship for scrap. The Aeneas, a Chinese-built, nine-year-old boxship, has arrived at Chittagong’s anchorage, according to MarineTraffic, awaiting to be broken up. The 5,086 teu ship is one of the youngest container vessels to have been sent for early retirement. The ship was acquired by Synergy Marine from Hamburger Lloyd four years ago.
