Following the extraordinary success last November of Hong Kong Maritime Week, organisers, the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board, led by the Secretary for Transport and Housing, arrived in Copenhagen on 11 March.
In the first promotional trip of the new year, the delegation of the HKMPB, led by STH, Frank Chan met with the Danish Maritime Authority to explore collaboration opportunities.
Later, members of the HKMPB lunched with representatives of the Global Maritime Forum. The GMF is a Copenhagen-based international not-for-profit foundation dedicated to promoting the global development of the maritime industry. The organisation held its inaugural summit outside of Denmark in Hong Kong in October 2018.
In the afternoon the delegation went on to meet with representatives from Danish Ship Finance and the Danish Maritime Fund to learn about the development of the ship finance industry in Denmark and the Nordic region, and to promote Hong Kong’s ship leasing business and other high value-added maritime services. The Hong Kong Government last year committed to introducing a reduction of 50% in corporate tax to vessel leasing firms
Mr Chan and members of the HKMPB then held a roundtable meeting with the Baltic and International Maritime Council, Danish Shipping and the Danish Shipbrokers Association to discuss global maritime issues of mutual interest and to promote Hong Kong’s strengths as an international maritime centre.
Yesterday (12 March) Mr Chan and members of the HKMPB played host to Players in the Danish shipping industry along with related government dignitaries, at a seminar-cum-luncheon. Jointly hosting the event were members of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London, and the Denmark-Hong Kong Trade Association.
The HKMPB delegation will today head to Oslo, Norway on the second leg of its promotional trip of the Nordic countries.
