China Shipping bulletins on Feb 1,2019


1.TS LINES has joined with the Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp, Gold Star Line and CNC of APL to offer China Malaysia service (TS Lines calls it CM3) starting February 23 from Qingdao with each carrier deploying a 4,250-TEU vessel.
 
2.Chinese research vessel "Kexue" concluded a 74-day-long scientific exploration in the Western Pacific Ocean,the longest voyage in its history.The ship docked in the city of Qingdao in east China's Shandong Province on Thursday after completing a voyage of more than 12,000 nautical miles. 
 
3.China's research icebreaker Xuelong, or Snow Dragon,is expected to return from the Antarctic to Shanghai in mid-March,a month ahead of schedule.The return will come after a four-and-a-half-month expedition,according to the Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration.
 
4.China's crude oil futures closed higher on Thursday.The most active contract for March 2019 delivery was up 1.56% to 431.6 yuan per barrel,data from the Shanghai International Energy Exchange (INE) showed. 
 
5.Turkey acceded to IMO's Hong Kong Convention,the treaty for safe and environmentally sound ship recycling, setting a landmark as one of the five major ship recycling countries in the world. Mr.Ümit Yalçın,Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Turkey to IMO, met IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim to deposit the instrument of accession to the treaty, on 31 January.
 
6.A sub-committee under IMO have forwarded three documents for adoption in June, moving one step closer to the adoption of a standardised system for electronic navigation.This year’s Navigation, Communication, Search and Rescue sub-committee (NCSR 6) took place from 15-25 January in London.
 
7.LNG shipping is set to turn in future into a liquid market in a manner similar to the oil shipping sector. Currently, the comparatively higher cost of LNG is prohibiting the mainstream switch to the cleaner fuel ahead of the International Maritime Organisation's new low sulphur marine fuel rule for 2020.
 
8.China's Clean Energy has signed a binding agreement with Japanese city gas supplier Shizuoka Gas Co to receive liquefied natural gas.
