Shipping bulletins on August 14,2018


1.China seeks feedback on use of LNG as marine fuel.The ministry addressed the letter seeking comments to shipping companies,port and maritime authorities as well as oil companies, asking them to submit their opinions on the promotion of LNG as bunker fuel by August 20.
 
2.Taiwanese shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation (Yang Ming) delivered an expanded net loss in the second quarter of 2018,amid a surge in fuel prices so far this year.
 
3.Singapore-listed COSCO Shipping International saw its turnover from continuing operations jump by 271 pct in the second quarter of 2018.
 
4.The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) will host the 36th ASEAN Maritime Transport Working Group Meeting (MTWG) and the 12th Meeting on ASEAN-China Maritime Consultation Mechanism (ACMCM) from 13 to 16 August 2018. 
 
5.China's Ministry of Transportation wants to expand the country's LNG infrastructure, so more ships shift from using heavy fuel over to liquefied natural gas. The announcement arrives after the country threatened sanctions on US LNG last week.
 
6.International law firm CMS is continuing its Hong Kong expansion with the appointment of two esteemed Insurance partners to associated Hong Kong firm Shirley Lau & Co. LLP. Dual-qualified Andrew Horton and Steven Wise,who are specialising in marine insurance and shipping and international trade will join the firm from RPC.
 
7.China is expected to take over from France's Total SA to develop Iran's share of the world's biggest gas deposit. The French oil major has halted operations after US President Donald Trump reimposed sanctions on Iran.
 
8.The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) in alliance with the Ugandan government has launched a welders certification program to train and prepare nationals for the country's prospective oil industry.
