China-Russia natural LNG project comes to full operation

A ceremony celebrating the completion of the Yamal Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project, a major energy cooperation project between China and Russia, was held Tuesday in Russia's Sabetta sea port, marking a new phase of the two countries' energy cooperation in the Arctic area.

The Yamal project, within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, went into full operation.

The ceremony also marked the ship-loading of the liquefied natural gas from the third LNG production line at the Sabetta sea port, which is located in the northeastern part of the Yamal Peninsula.

"This project once again firmly proves the solid relations with our project partners, China and France. What's important is that the Yamal LNG project will promote the development of transnational infrastructure. It first connects Europe and Asia with the northern sea route," said Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

As the third LNG production line was officially put into operation, the construction of the project with an annual output of 16.5 million tons was formally completed.

The completion is one year ahead of schedule.

"We have a share in this project, so some of the LNG products will be sold to China. It means a lot to ensuring China's energy supply and safeguarding the blue sky," said Qin Weizhong, deputy general manager of China National Petroleum Corporation.

The Yamal project not only pushes the development of Russia's energy industry and regional economy, but also accelerates the pace of China's energy structure optimization.
