OOCL Receives Digital Transformation Award

OOCL is very proud to receive the Digital Transformation Award from ESCP Europe – a leading European business school celebrating its 200th anniversary this year. The awards program recognizes outstanding achievements and success in the organization’s digital transformation journey.  In the evaluation process, the judging criteria for the award was based on the following key considerations:

Companies that have transformed themselves through technology;
An overall vision that leverages technology across customer experience, employee experience and business processes;
A long-term transformation driven by top management;
Human Resources management based on both recruiting external digital experts and supporting current teams through the transformation;
Positive initial results reflected in turnover growth, market share gain, process optimisation or new products & services.

Mr. Steve Siu, Chief Information Officer of OOCL represented the company to receive the honor at the awards ceremony held on February 18, 2019, in Paris where he also participated in a sharing session to talk about digital transformation to an audience well over a thousand guests from the business community.

“An award like this is always very rewarding and encouraging for us to do better,” said Mr. Siu.  “Digital technology is developing and evolving very quickly and it is very important for OOCL to be at the forefront of innovation to ensure we remain ahead of the competition.”

OOCL has always been a pioneer in leveraging technology to make a real business impact on operations while improving its services to customers. Equipped with a talent base of over 1,000 developers located in San Jose, Hong Kong, Zhuhai, Shanghai and Manila, OOCL has been working very closely with its sister company, CargoSmart, a software solutions provider, to leverage artificial intelligence, Internet of Things and big data to improve visibility and network operations efficiency with predictive insights since 2012.

OOCL also developed close collaborations with other business partners on this digital transformation journey which involved various key areas including the nurturing of AI developers and achieving specific targets such as cost-saving improvements in operations.

With the vision to improve the efficiency of the entire industry and supply chain, OOCL joined hands with eight other partners in the transportation and logistics sector to form a consortium called the Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN), an open digital platform which aims to connect all stakeholders in the supply chain by leveraging blockchain technology facilitated by CargoSmart.
