COSCO Attended the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference

The Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2019, with the theme of “Shared Future, Concerted Action, Common Development”, was held in Boao, Hainan Province from March 26 to 29. On the morning of March 28, Premier Li Keqiang attended the opening ceremony of the annual conference and delivered a keynote speech titled Jointly Tackling Challenges for Common Development. More than 2,000 representatives from the political and business circles as well as think tank scholars from over 60 countries and regions across five continents participated in the annual conference.

 

Capt. Xu Lirong, Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING, Mr. Xu Donggen, an external Board director of COSCO SHIPPING, Mr. Sun Yunfei, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of COSCO SHIPPING and Mr. Yu Zenggang, Executive Vice President of COSCO SHIPPING, were invited to the opening ceremony and listened to the keynote speech by Premier Li Keqiang. Before that, as a member of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Council of Advisors, Capt. Xu Lirong was invited to take a photo with the premier. That afternoon, Premier Li met with Chinese and foreign entrepreneurs, and Capt. Xu joined the meeting upon invitation.

 

On March 26, Capt. Xu Lirong attended the meeting of the BFA Council of Advisors as a council member. At the meeting, he appreciated the efforts made by the Secretariat to, under the leadership of the new Board of Directors, spread the BFA’s concept of multilateral cooperation to all over the world and carry forward its spirit of cooperation, which have enhanced the BFA’s influence. Meanwhile, he expressed his recognition of “One Focus and Five Major Areas” – a development strategy proposed at the forum.

 

On March 27, a parallel session on “Belt & Road: Building ‘Road’ for Globalization” of the BFA Annual Conference 2019 was held in Boao, Hainan Province. Capt. Xu Lirong addressed the parallel session as a guest. Citing the investment of COSCO SHIPPING in Peru’s Chancay Terminal, Capt. Xu said port construction will play a strong role in promoting Belt and Road infrastructure connectivity, and an irreplaceable role in revitalizing regional economy, boosting international trade and building an industry chain covering shipping, ports and logistics. While developing the Belt and Road, more countries involved in the Initiative should be able to share China’s successful experience. Mr. Sun Yunfei was also present at the parallel session.

 

On the afternoon of March 27, Capt. Xu Lirong and Mr. Sun Yunfei attended the “SASAC Session: Reform for Converging Interests, Cooperation for Mutual Benefits”. Capt. Xu Lirong, Mr. Xu Donggen and Mr. Sun Yunfeng were also present at the session on “Social Value and the Role of Business Community”. At noon on March 28, Capt. Xu was invited to a luncheon on “New Civilization and Future Consensus” hosted by Yeosijae (Future Consensus Institute), a think tank based in Seoul, Korea. On the afternoon of March 28, Mr. Yu Zenggang joined the Cross-Straits CEO Roundtable and discussed with other guests the topic “institutionalization of cross-Straits economic cooperation and building a common market across the Straits”.

 

During the annual conference, Capt. Xu also met with BFA Secretary General Mr. Li Baodong, Deputy Secretary of Chongqing Municipal Party Committee Mr. Ren Xuefeng and Mayor of Guangzhou Mr. Wen Guohui. Mr. Sun Yunfei and Mr. Yu Zenggang accompanied Capt. Xu during the meetings. Mr. Sun Yunfei was invited to a luncheon with the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government.

 

On the eve of the annual conference, a delegation led by BFA Vice Chairman Mr. Zhou Xiaochuan visited the Dongyu halls, main venues and media center of the BFA International Conference Center (ICC) to inspect the preparations for the annual conference, and presided over a Chinese joint meeting to listen to the report on the preparatory work. Executive Vice President of COSCO SHIPPING Mr. Sun Jiakang accompanied Mr. Zhou during the inspection and gave a report at the joint meeting. Executives from COSCO SHIPPING Boao and the Public Relations Division of COSCO SHIPPING Boao also joined the inspection.
